People can go a long time convincing themselves that they CAN’T do something because it’s too hard, or they’re too old, or they’re not strong enough, etc, etc. Yet, the first step to achieving extraordinary things is to adopt a mindset that propels you forward.

We all possess a natural instinct to walk. We are hardwired to move and move freely. When we learn to walk, failing is not even a consideration. If we stumble and fall we simply get up and do it again. Somewhere along the way we’re taught that falling is akin to failure. Nothing, of course, is farther from the truth; the fall and the struggle to get up, is simply part of the process.

At FlipFit we emphasize a strong mentality through our programming, progressions, and careful coaching. Here are a few tips to prepare yourself with the right mindset and achieve your goals.

Focus.

Choose what you focus on. Don’t focus on what you can’t do, but on what you CAN do. Build on that. You may not be able to do a full handstand today, but you CAN do a progression. If you work that progression, build the strength and balance, you’ll move forward and towards a higher point. Movement revolutionary Ido Portal says, “Keep going. Don’t stop. Never stop…you’re frustrated? Keep going.” {Ido Portal video}

Discipline & Patience.

Consistency and patience are winning strategies. You’re not always going to have a good day and you are not always going to feel inspired. The important thing is to show up and do the work as best you can every day. Adopting discipline will help you get things done. {Discipline video}

Love the process.

We all strive for something better, but part of growing is the process itself. Every practice, every gain, every advancement counts towards the bigger goal. Kelly Starret, mobility and fitness guru, offers this advice. He says, “Be patient with your process and that the most important thing IS the process.” [link to Love the Process video]
